ACTION
Family Action's Behavioural Outreach Support Service (BOSS), commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council, works closely with mainstream schools and academies across Lincolnshire to support children who display challenging behaviour that harms their learning and school attendance, and puts them at risk of exclusion.
Focusing on early intervention and prevention, BOSS employs a variety of support methods, including targeted outreach, therapeutic interventions, training for school staff, parent support and advice for schools. The service also considers any special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) a child has, and tailors interventions to match their individual needs.
Upon receiving a referral for a child who is displaying distressed behaviour that affects their learning or school attendance, staff at BOSS assess the child's behaviours and needs. To ensure they gain a complete picture of the child's situation, BOSS meets with key staff and teaching assistants in the child's school, the child, and their parents or carers. Information from this shapes an action plan, designed in collaboration with the child, their school and their parents. The service also works in partnership with local mental health services across Lincolnshire where appropriate, so the services can collaborate to meet the child's needs.
